It’s NOT Income Tax Filing Day today… for Yuba, Sutter and 50 other California Counties. Why? Disasters.
The IRS and state income tax filing and payment deadline is usually April 15. Because the 15th was a Saturday, it bumped to Tuesday, April 18… except… for people affected by this winter’s disasters in California.
The deadline is now Monday, October 16 for both state and federal filers.
That includes: Filing tax returns, Paying income taxes, and making contributions to a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA) or Roth IRA accounts, and health savings accounts. It also covers estimated tax payments for a variety of taxes.
There are state tax deductions available for California filers. The state is also cancelling interest and penalties on underpaid income for the length of the deadline extension.
Residents in the impacted counties will automatically receive the tax extension and will not need to provide documentation, according to the IRS.
Among other things, this gives tax filers more time to include 2022 disaster losses in their 2022 returns.
